Study: Streptococcus suis is an emerging underreported zoonotic pathogen in Europe: a systematic review and molecular epidemiology study
show Abstracthide Abstract
S. suis infection is not a notifiable disease in Europe, the total number of human infections is likely under-reported. Moreover, the number of published European zoonotic genomes is low, making it difficult to asses the molecular epidemiology of S. suis in the continent. We aimed to assess European zoonotic S. suis infections across the past three decades and its population structure. We sequenced 46 zoonotic S. suis isolates collected from European bacterial reference laboratories with Illumina WGS.
