show Abstracthide AbstractCampylobacter jejuni is the major cause of gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. It is a self-limiting disease with the symptoms varying from watery diarrhoea with no inflammation to mucous containing bloody diarrhea. A rare but life-threatening neurological disorder, Guillain Barré syndrome, was often associated with antecedent infection with C. jejuni. To explore the bacterial pathogenic factors and the clinical outcome of the infection, the next generation sequencing approach was therefore undertaken to analyze four C. jejuni strains isolated from GBS patients.
