Effects of gene transcription profiles of Streptococcus suis between planktonic and biofilm states

(Submitter supplied) To investigate the gene transcription profiles of Streptococcus suis in the planktonic state and biofilm state, we provided samples cultured for 8 h in the planktonic state and samples cultured for 24 h in vitro biofilm. We then performed gene expression profiling analysis using data obtained from RNA-seq of 2 different samples at two time points.

Transcriptomic analysis of Streptococcus suis in response to ferrous iron and cobalt toxicity

(Submitter supplied) We explored the transcriptome change of Streptococcus suis in the presence of ferrous iron and cobalt by RNA sequencing. The data revealed that expression of a lot of genes was altered to respond to ferrous iron and cobalt toxicity. Moreover, most of the genes differentially expressed in response to cobalt are the same as those in response to ferrous iron.

Understanding Streptococcus suis serotype 2 infection in pigs through a transcriptional approach

(Submitter supplied) Streptococcus suis serotype 2 is an important pathogen of pigs, and the disease it causes is characterized by meningitis, septicaemia and pneumonia with high mortality. The pathogen is also an emerging zoonotic agent and threatens humans that are exposed to pigs or their by-products. We investigated the response of PBMC (Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell), brain and lung tissues to infection with S. more...

Carbohydrates Regulate Virulence Gene Expression in Streptococcus suis

(Submitter supplied) Streptococcus suis is a major pig pathogen as well as an emerging zoonotic pathogen. Previous work has demonstrated that the S. suis extracellular amylopullulanase enzyme (ApuA) that degrades {alpha}-glucans also functions as an adhesin for porcine epithelial cells. To identify the mechanisms linking carbohydrate metabolism and virulence, we first compared the transcriptome of S. suis in minimal medium supplemented with glucose to minimal medium containing a complex carbohydrate pullulan as a carbon source. more...
