Transcriptional Profile of Lactobacillus helveticus grown in milk vs. MRS medium

(Submitter supplied) L. helveticus is used to modulate cheese flavor and as a starter organism in certain cheese varieties. Our group has compiled a draft (4x) sequence for the 2.4 Mb genome of an industrial strain L. helveticus CNRZ32. The primary aim was to investigate expression of 168 completely sequenced genes during growth in milk and MRS medium using microarrays. Oligonucleotide probes against each of the completely sequenced genes were compiled on maskless photolithography-based DNA microarrays. more...

Temporal gene expression and probiotic attributes of Lactobacillus acidophilus during growth in milk

(Submitter supplied) Lactic acid bacteria have been used as starter strains in the production of fermented dairy products for centuries. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a widely recognized probiotic bacteria commonly added to yogurt and used in dietary supplements. In this study, a whole genome microarray was employed to monitor gene expression of L. acidophilus cells propagated in 11% skim milk (SM) during early, mid and late logarithmic phase, and stationary phase. more...

Synechocysis sp. PCC6803 full genome array version 1

(Submitter supplied) Construction and Preparation of Synechocystis Spotted Microarrays: 3168 genes or putative ORFs of Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 were PCR amplified in two stages. Primary amplification was achieved using gene-specific up-stream and down-stream primers modified with adaptamer sequences and genomic DNA template. Secondary amplification was achieved using adaptamer primers and individual primary PCR product templates. more...

Global gene expression in Moraxella catarrhalis ATCC43617 cells grown in the planktonic and in biofilm states

(Submitter supplied) Total RNA samples were isolated from M. catarrhalis grown in the planktonic state (i.e., in broth) and in a biofilm. Biofilms were generated by growing this strain in the continuous-flow Sorbarod filter system for three days. Total RNA samples and M. catarrhalis genome-directed primers (GDPs) were used for synthesis of Cy3- or Cy5-labeled cDNA samples. Five independent M. catarrhalis growth experiments and total RNA isolations were used for the synthesis of cDNA samples, and a total of six DNA microarray hybridizations were performed in this study. more...

Global gene expression in Moraxella catarrhalis ATCC 43617 grown under iron-replete and iron-limiting conditions

(Submitter supplied) Total RNA samples were isolated from M. catarrhalis grown in BHI (iron-replete condition, designated DF0) and in BHI containing 30 mM Desferal (iron-limiting condition, designated DF30). Total RNA and M. catarrhalis genome-directed primers (GDPs) were used for synthesis of Cy3- or Cy5-labeled cDNA samples. Three independent M. catarrhalis growth experiments and total RNA isolations were used for synthesis of cDNA samples, and a total of six DNA microarray hybridizations were performed in this study. more...

Global transcriptome analysis of Lactobacillus reuteri in sourdough fermentation.

(Submitter supplied) In this study, we investigated the transcriptional response of the human isolate L. reuteri ATCC 55730 during sourdough fermentation by using whole-genome microarrays. Significant changes of mRNA levels were found for 101 genes involved in diverse cellular processes, e.g., carbohydrate and energy metabolism, cell envelope biosynthesis, exopolysaccharide production, stress responses, signal transduction and cobalamin biosynthesis. more...

Expression Profiling of Heat Stress Effects on Mice Fed Ergot Alkaloids.

(Submitter supplied) Fescue toxicosis affects wild and domestic animals consuming ergot alkaloids contained in tall fescue forage infected with the endophytic fungus, Neotyphodium coenophialum. , When animals are consuming infected fescue forage during periods of elevated ambient temperatures (summer), a range of phenotypic disorders collectively called summer slump is observed. It is characterized by hyperthermia, with an accompanying decrease in feed intake, growth, milk yield and reproductive fitness. more...

(Submitter supplied) Genomic rearrangement, often driven by insertion sequence (IS) elements, is one of the major processes in the evolution of prokaryotes. Sequence analysis of 16S rRNA of Lactobacillus helveticus, an organism that evolved in a dairy environment and Lactobacillus acidiophilus an organism that evolved associated with the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) demonstrated 98.4% identity suggesting that they divergently evolved from a common ancestor. more...
