Transcriptome profiling of Propionibacterium freudenreichii strains associated with different anti-inflammatory properties.

(Submitter supplied) Propionibacterium freudenreichii, a dairy starter, reaches a population close to 10^9 propionibacteria per gram of Swiss-type cheese at the time of consumption. Also consumed as a probiotic, it revealed strain-dependent anti-inflammatory properties mediated by proteins inducing IL-10 in leukocytes. Here, strains with varied anti-inflammatory potentials were compared in terms of transcriptome profiles.

Propionibacterium freudenreichii transcriptomic response during cold storage

(Submitter supplied) Propionibacterium freudenreichii is used as a ripening culture in Swiss cheese manufacture. It produces flavor compounds over the whole ripening period. During cheese ripening, P. freudenreichii is exposed to a temperature downshift, especially when cheeses are transferred from warm temperature (about 24°C) to cold temperature (about 4°C). The aim of this study was to investigate the adaptation of P. more...

Adaptation of Propionibacterium freudenreichii to long-term survival under gradual nutritional shortage

(Submitter supplied) Propionibacterium freudenreichii CIRM-BIA138 was grown for 11 days in YEL medium at 30°C without any addition of nutrients. RNA was extracted from bacteria harvested 24 H post-inoculation (exponential phase) and 72 H post-inoculation and was depleted from ribosmic sequences. RNA samples were sequenced on Hiseq 2000 generating single reads of 50 bp.

The probiotic Propionibacterium freudenreichii as a new adjuvant for TRAIL-based therapy in colorectal cancer

(Submitter supplied) TRAIL (TNF-Related Apoptosis Inducing Ligand) is a well-known apoptosis inducer, which activates the extrinsic death pathway. It is pro-apoptotic on colon cancer cells, while not cytotoxic towards normal healthy cells. However, its clinical use is limited by resistance which occurs in approximately 50% of cancer cells. SCFA (Short Chain Fatty Acids) are also known to specifically induce apoptosis of cancer cells. more...

Identification of molecular markers involved in glycopeptide resistance of S. aureus

(Submitter supplied) To unravel molecular targets involved in glycopeptide resistance, three isogenic strains of Staphylococcus aureus with different susceptibility levels to vancomycin or teicoplanin were subjected to whole-genome microarray-based transcription and quantitative proteomic profiling. Quantitative proteomics performed on membrane extracts showed exquisite inter-experimental reproducibility permitting the identification and relative quantification of >30% of the predicted S. more...

Transcriptome analysis of wild type and erythromycin-producing strain of S. erythraea

(Submitter supplied) Erythromycin is a medically important antibiotic, biosynthesized by the actinomycete Saccharopolyspora erythraea. We used transcriptomic approach to compare whole genome expression in erythromycin high-producing strain, compared to the wild type S. erythraea strain in four stages of fermentation.
